Dr. Maiden’s passion is helping clients access their full potential and become powerful creators of the lives they desire and deserve. Dr. Maiden’s approach to coaching focuses on teaching assertiveness, improving relationships, finding ways to cope with anxiety and stress, and building effective communication skills. Dr. Maiden’s success comes from assisting his clients in pinpointing their goals, identifying obstacles, and exploring traditional and holistic ways to reach desired outcomes.
Qualifications, Education, Experience
Dr. Brian S. Maiden is one of the Co-founders of Alchemy InCoaching LLC, an organization designed to provide Innovative, Solution-Focused coaching to individuals Grade 6-undergraduate with a focus on student-athletes, performers, and general students.
Dr. Maiden is the Interim Chair and an Assistant Professor at Virginia State University. Dr. Brian Maiden holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Education as well as a Masters’ Degree in Counseling Education from Virginia Tech, where he also served as an Associate Adjunct Professor. He earned his Bachelors in Sociology from Morgan State University.
Dr. Maiden has over eighteen years of experience as a school counselor. He served as the Virginia School Counselors Association (VSCA) Secondary Level Vice-President in the 2009-2010 election cycle. As a result of his efforts in the school and community, the Prince William Regional Counselors Association (PWCRA) also selected him as the 2018 School Counselor of the Year.
Dr. Maiden has created many innovative programs designed to provide marginalized students greater opportunities to be engaged in their high school experiences. To that end, Dr. Maiden founded and became the advisor of Gay and Lesbians Straight Education Network (GLSEN), at Osbourn High School, which was the first student organization at the high school to address the concerns of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer (and/or questioning) (GLBTQ) student body. The lives they desire and deserve. Dr. Maiden’s approach to coaching focuses on teaching assertiveness, improving relationships, finding ways to cope with anxiety and stress, and building effective leadership skills. Dr. Maiden’s success comes from assisting his clients in pinpointing their goals, identifying obstacles, and exploring traditional and holistic ways to reach desired outcomes.
Dr. Maiden co-created the Twelve Rounds Counseling, Martial Arts, and Boxing Program. This program was established to combat active gang recruitment taking place at the high school level in the City of Manassas.
In 2016, Dr. Maiden co-founded and became an advisor of The Take Over – a leadership organization for marginalized students designed to improve the culture and environment within the Manassas City Public Schools. The organization developed numerous programs that had a profound impact on the school culture.
Dr. Maiden is currently Co-hosting, “Housetalk” with Dr. Lauren D. Pitts. “Housetalk” is a strength-based and holistic discussion to create awareness and equip families with the systemic tools they need to improve the quality of their lives.
He is also developing a podcast with his students at Virginia State University called, The Social Alchemist. The mission of the podcast, The Social Alchemists, is to positively impact our community. The podcast will provide an open voice to inform, educate, connect, amplify, inspire, and entertain the diverse communities of VSU, Petersburg, and the larger listening audience on mental wellness and social justice.
