Mr. Young is an enthusiastic, personable, nurturing, global educator and counselor-leader focused on establishing rapport with individuals to promote leadership development and self-motivation for academic achievement. He empowers individuals to monitor their own growth as learners to establish their own goals for academic growth. His experience as an educator has allowed him to develop a robust understanding of counseling, teaching and learning in the areas of academic achievement, mentoring, and college & career readiness.
Qualifications, Education, Experience
Mr. Young is an educational administrator who currently serves as Systems of Support Advisor in Fairfax County Public Schools. In this role, he supports the school community by implementing targeted behavioral and academic interventions as well as social and emotional learning. A native of North Carolina, now residing in Washington D.C., holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), a masters’ degree in Counselor Education (VCU) as well as a masters’ degree in Education Leadership from George Mason University.
Prior to becoming one of the Co-founders of Alchemy InCoaching, an organization designed to provide innovative coaching to students Grade 6-undergraduate, Mr. Young served as educational coach with Educational Connections for approximately 3 years. There he served in a variety of capacities, including working with students to enhance study skills, time-management, & executive functioning skills.
Mr. Young has a passion for creating and developing programs that enhance academic achievement within students. He was the Founder of the Step It Up program which challenged fifth grade male students to achieve worthy goals and make constructive contributions to their communities. He has also worked closely with teachers and staff to create teacher & peer mentor programs that allowed students to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Mr. Young was recently awarded the 2021 VCU 10 under 10 award, which recognizes the noteworthy and distinctive achievements made by alumni who earned their first VCU degree (undergraduate, graduate or professional) within the past 10 years.
Mr. Young has served in leadership roles in various educational settings, including School Improvement Plan Committees, College Partnership Program Leadership Team, Positive Behavioral & Intervention Supports Team, & Summer Learning Administrator.
As a Global Educator, Mr. Young is a firm believer that travel is the best form of education. Recently he took students abroad to Ecuador for Service Learning in which students were exposed to various cultures, traditions and perspectives. As an Assistant Director for the Summer Experience Program through CPP, he has been able to prepare students for the college application process, travel and expose students to a variety of colleges and universities, atmosphere and classroom lessons, obtain information from various college admission officers, and to gain the experience of living on a college campus. His knack and passion for creating educational opportunities for students to travel internationally, domestically and expand their horizon has made a tremendous impact on students.
