The Takeover Leadership program is a 6-week strength-based program designed to help students develop exceptional leadership skills that can be applied in individual, group or school settings. It is excellent for those who have displayed leadership qualities but face challenges that limit them from fulfilling their promise. The goal is for students to utilize leadership skills, manage their social-emotional wellness, and increase student engagement to ensure academic success.
Our mission is to use our position as leaders in the school to enact positive change in our school and community.
To instill and rebuild a collective positive energy into the youth and adults in the environment surrounding us by providing positive home like feelings through projects and activities throughout our school and community.
The Takeover was established in February 2016 by Dr. Brian Maiden and Mr. Armand Johnston II. They gathered the founding members Laura Trujillo, Jhesslyn Reyes, Derrick Wilson, Emmanuel Wilson, Brandon Moya, Shirley Moya, Magaly Olivar, Jeffery Johnson, Alicia Martinez, and Tiara Perry.
An event that occurs during Eagle block (study hall) which is similar to a school talent show. This event provides students the platform to freely showcase their talents (i.e., music, poetry, dance, art).
Takeover the Mic - Natural Disaster Academic school year 2017-2018 - This particular event occurred after school during the academic school year, open to the student body and surrounding community, with the partnership of Student Council Association (SCA). Students came together to showcase their talents (i.e., music, poetry, dance, art). All proceeds were split between Osbourn High School and the natural disasters for hurricane relief in Texas and Puerto Rico.
Academic school year 2016-2017 - Students and staff were challenged to do something or say something kind to another individual. Following their random act of kindness students and staff were able to write on the sticky notes placed in certain locations of the school for others to see.
Academic school year 2017-2018 - Members of The Takeover drew a picture of the Osbourn High School mascot, an Eagle, and also drew an outline of feathers for the Eagle’s wings. On the feathers students were encouraged to write something kind that they either did or said to another individual.
Academic school year 2017-2018 - The students created a video centered around one individual, in the form of a dancer, as the other students (bullies) painted negative and hateful words on the dancer. Due to the bullying from her peers the dancer used her body as a canvas by cutting her wrist and committed suicide. The video was displayed at a Takeover the Mic event where students were encouraged to create their own anti-bullying videos. The contest also broadcasted during Eagle Block and received great support from the Administration.
